Picacho Peak State Park is a desert oasis in central Arizona, offering visitors a unique combination of scenic beauty, historical significance, and outdoor adventure. The park's centerpiece is the iconic Picacho Peak, a striking geological formation that rises dramatically from the surrounding Sonoran Desert landscape.

The area is renowned for its rich history, including its role in the Civil War Battle of Picacho Pass, and its diverse plant and animal life. Visitors can explore the park's hiking trails, including the challenging Picacho Peak Trail that leads to panoramic views at the summit. The desert landscape is home to a variety of wildlife, including desert cottontails, bighorn sheep, and numerous bird species like hawks and hummingbirds. The vibrant desert flora includes ocotillo, creosote, saguaro cacti, and palo verde trees, making it a photographer's dream.

Picacho Peak State Park is ideal for camping, with a developed campground offering 85 sites for both tent and RV camping. All sites have electricity, and many offer ramadas for added comfort. The sites are located in a natural Sonoran Desert setting, providing a peaceful, scenic environment. Each campsite includes a picnic table and a barbeque/fire ring, but no water or sewer hookups are available. Potable water is available at the dump station, and generator use is not permitted. There are two modern, handicapped-accessible restroom and shower buildings available at no additional charge for campers.

For a more relaxed stay, enjoy bird watching, photography, or stargazing under the clear desert skies. Please note that the entrance gate is closed nightly from 10 pm to 5 am, and trails are closed from sunset to sunrise.
