Nestled along the serene West Fork of the Black River in Arizona’s stunning Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, West Fork Campground is a hidden gem for nature enthusiasts and campers seeking a back-to-basics outdoor adventure. Perched at an elevation of 7,740 feet, the area provides refreshing mountain air and picturesque landscapes shaded by towering pines.

This rustic camping spot features about a dozen visible sites with limited privacy due to sparse undergrowth. Although lacking formal campsite designations, campers enjoy dappled shade and close proximity to the pristine Black River—perfect for wading, playing, or simply enjoying the soothing sounds of flowing water.

Wildlife sightings are a highlight, with reports of wild horses, bears, and even a beaver with its dam on the river. Birdwatchers and wildlife photographers will find plenty to capture. Adventurous visitors can access fresh spring water via a short hike to coordinates QHVM+RPG Three Forks, Arizona.

The campground operates seasonally between May and October with a 14-day stay limit. Amenities are minimal—there is one pit toilet (two stalls) but no drinking water, trash removal, or other facilities. Campers should pack out all trash and come fully prepared with water and supplies.
