Apache Lake, formed in 1927 by the Horse Mesa Dam, is a scenic reservoir located within the Tonto National Forest. The lake spans approximately 1,500 acres and is surrounded by steep canyon walls, making it a hidden gem for visitors seeking both relaxation and adventure. In addition to the developed Burnt Corral Campground and Apache Lake Marina & Resort, Apache Lake offers various dispersed camping options for visitors seeking a more rustic, back-to-nature experience. The dispersed sites are located within the Tonto National Forest, providing solitude and open space. Most dispersed campsites are accessible by 4x4 vehicles, though some can be reached by standard vehicles. These campsites offer stunning views of the surrounding desert landscape and lake, with some situated near the shores of Apache Lake and others nestled in the nearby hills and forested areas.
Burnt Corral Campground features 76 developed campsites, perfect for tents and RVs. This campground offers amenities such as vault toilets, potable water, and a paved boat launch. Campers enjoy the use of picnic tables, fire rings with grills, and shaded ramadas. The campground is also accessible to visitors who are mobility impaired.
Apache Lake Marina & Resort offers a variety of accommodations and activities. Guests can enjoy lakefront hotel rooms, RV sites with full hookups, and lakeside camping options. The resort provides boat rentals, including pontoon boats, kayaks, and paddleboards, as well as boat slips for long-term storage. The lodge features a convenient store for supplies and food.
